The history of my hobby:I began with pottery when I was an 8 year old little girl. It was the first ever club for childrens pottery in our town. We worked in a basement room of a childrens club called "Haus der Jungen Pioniere". We had no prepared materials. So we had to mix different powders in a kind of pot with water to get brown clay. All tools were ad-libed. Our teacher was a nice old lady, Miss Goldbach. The firng work made a goldsmith in town. 3 or 4 times a year. After 3 or 4 years the working conditions improved. We moved into an art studio of the adult education center. When Miss Goldbach retired, Mr. Eckhardt Pehnert became our teacher. Over the years I learned a lot. Both teachers taught us with soft hands, the never put us under pressure or made us do things we would not like. Many thanks to both of them! It is to say that we (kids) were never allowed to try machine work. During my 11th school year I tried to find an apprenticeship position to become a potter. Various circumstances caused that it didn't work. I was a member of this kids club until I gave birth to my daughter at the age of 20 years. Because of having a baby, later two kids and working full time, constructing a house and so on my hobby was pushed into the background of my life. Some years ago I run across Mr. Pehnert in a shop. He told me that I could join a new adult club near my working place. I was so glad to have clay in my hands again. In spring 2006 the first time in m life I worked at a pottery wheel, a real electric one at Mr. Pehnerts home. I am a still a beginner, but I love it and I promise to improve my knowledges. I still love pottery work!
